Luke Albert Combs was born in Huntersville, North Carolina, near Charlotte, to Rhonda and Chester Combs. The family later moved to Asheville, North Carolina. As an only child, Luke developed a strong work ethic, influenced by his parents' full-time jobs. Luke's parents instilled in him the importance of hard work and making the best of any situation. In February 2014, Combs released his first EP, The Way She Rides. Later that year, he released his second EP, Can I Get an Outlaw. In November 2015, he released his third EP, This One's for You.
In 2014, Combs moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue his music career. He signed his first record deal with Columbia Nashville in October 2016. By this time, he had been performing shows full-time for five years.
Combs' breakthrough came with the re-release of his first single, "Hurricane," to country radio in the fall of 2016. The track reached number one on Billboard's Country Airplay chart in May 2017.

Combs' second album, What You See Is What You Get, was released on November 8, 2019. In May 2020, Combs released the single "Six Feet Apart," which resonated with listeners due to its reflection on the challenges of life during the COVID-19 pandemic. In October 2020, he released a deluxe version of What You See Is What You Get with five additional tracks.
Combs' third album, Growin' Up, was released on June 24, 2022. The album included the singles "Doin' This," "The Kind of Love We Make" (which reached number one on the country chart and number eight on the Hot 100), and "Going, Going, Gone."
His fourth album, Gettin' Old, was released on March 24, 2023. Ahead of the album's release, Combs released the promotional single "Growin' Up and Gettin' Old" and the single "Love You Anyway."
