As the seasons change, so do the trends in fashion and hairstyles. With a keen eye on the runways and streets of fashion capitals, we can anticipate the styles that will define the coming year. From retro revivals to modern interpretations of classic cuts, the forecast for hair and beauty is diverse and exciting. Photographed by Flordalis Espinal.
Retro headscarves were a clear hair trend of the season. Seen on Gracie Abrams, Euro summer snapshots on your Instagram feed, and the streets of Copenhagen Fashion Week, retro headscarves were everywhere the past few months. Stylish Danes indicate that they’ll be spotted throughout fashion month, too. The accessory can top any hairstyle and adds extra personal flair to your overall look.
The moodier the makeup, the more fashionable. Black lipstick is having a moment, seen on the Schiaparelli runway at Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2025 in July, along with the stylish attendees outside of the shows. For a more subdued take on the trend, opt for a deep bruised plum stain.
To stand out in a sea of stylish fashion show attendees, dye your hair a vibrant neon hue. Expect to spot various other colors of the rainbow while perusing through street style highlights this month.
Models at Fall/Winter 2025 shows like Brandon Maxwell and Balmain had soft, velvety complexions with just a hint of blush. Arguably, the moderately matte alternative is a more realistic look than glazed donut skin, and that’s exactly why you’re seeing less highlighter.

Cloud-like curls will be popular among the street style scene as they dash from show to show. You can also expect to spot the style on more runways (it was seen at Chloé Fall/Winter 2025 and Munthe Spring/Summer 2026). With more and more designers opting to tailor the collection’s beauty look to each model, embracing and enhancing their natural textures is key.
The hottest hair trend on and off the runways is hair that’s effortlessly textured and perfectly messy. This look is all about enhancing your hair’s natural texture-as if you’re waking up the morning after a fun night out. “To conjure this mood, layer in Kérastase Mousse Bouffante for instant body, sculpt the waves with a round brush and the Airtight Pro blow dryer, and finish with Kérastase Volume In Powder Texture Spray,” says celebrity hairstylist Cesar Ramirez. “The result is a rich collision of softness and strength that’s effortlessly cool.”
2025 is the year of the bob, and the short style isn’t forfeiting its crown any time soon. “Bobs are trending because they strike the perfect balance between structure and versatility, offering a fresh, modern take on a classic cut,” says Ramirez. The textured blunt bob combines sharp, clean lines with soft internal layering and choppy ends, creating dimension without sacrificing polish. The key is effortless, lived-in volume and movement while maintaining the sharp, defined edge. This haircut is praised for being low-maintenance yet high-style-ideal for those seeking a bold yet wearable look.
Rich red tones will once again be all the rage this fall season. “Rich, warm, brown-copper tones are having a major moment,” Ramirez says. “The color combines the perfect brunette glow with dimensional, natural-looking warmth that flatters a wide range of skin tones.” It’s subtle sophistication and a refreshing move away from overly cool or icy shades-embracing depth, softness, and retro glamour.
Soft, wispy curtain bangs are “a timeless, face-framing hairstyle characterized by a center part and delicately swept sides that create a soft, romantic, and effortlessly lived-in look,” Ramirez says. These longer, less-blunt bangs gently graze the cheekbones, adding instant allure to a classic blowout or ponytail. Universally flattering across all face shapes, the style enhances natural features with elegance and ease.

“In fall 2025, grunge returns not as a throwback, but as a rebellion against hyper-polished perfection,” Ramirez puts it. The rebellious hairstyle of choice? An effortless low bun that blurs the line between bun and ponytail, for that lived-in, casual look. To get there, “start by adding some grit with Kérastase Fresh Affair Dry Shampoo. Then, gather your hair into a ponytail, and on the final loop, twist as if creating a bun-stopping just short to let the ends fall free.” In the front, pull a few strands forward to frame the face and soften the edge.
The modern '90s blowout is all about volume and movement, with face-framing strands.
"Curls and braids are definitely the go-to protective styles this season. They’re stylish, versatile, and ideal for protecting the hair from heat and environmental stress," Boozer says.
"The French bob has made a huge comeback, with super-sharp clean lines right between cheekbone and jawline," says Dueñas.
For a timeless, tailored cut that can take you from summer to fall, consider trying the luxe bob.

Look out for more natural-looking "sun-kissed" colors. "Apricot blonds, more yellow, sunlight blondes. Colors and highlighting techniques that mimic the sun’s natural lightning process," he says.
"They're effortless, chic, and perfect for the warmer weather. Clients are drawn to styles that are low-maintenance but still stylish and work-appropriate.
"[It's the] perfect way to beat the summer heat and humidity," Dueñas says. "High shine is coming back to show off healthy hair with glowing skin.
It's the ideal summer style for "those who can't fully commit to a short, defined bob," since it's slightly looser and more playful than other cuts like the French bob or luxe bob. For this one, just make sure you have a texturizing styling product on hand to add more dimension.
Face-framing layers, the ’90s supermodel blowout, and bobs are bound to dominate social media feeds. Romantic and whimsical hair looks, such as Shirley Temple-esque curls and fairy-like waves, will change it up a bit and give you something new and exciting to look forward to.
For next year, people may be leaning into even shorter versions than ever before. “We used to [cut] just grazing the shoulder,” says celebrity hairstylist Jacob Rozenberg. “But I have definitely seen people going bold.” He points to his most recent cut for Lily Collins for inspo, where the bob hits right at the chin for that elusive cool French-girl look that’s just oh-so chic.
All experts say that side parts will be making a triumphant comeback. “I’m so excited that side parts and side-swept bangs are making a comeback,” says celebrity hairstylist Lacy Redway. “But I also think a flip-over versus an actual part will be something we see a lot as well, especially with curly and textured styles.” For added playfulness, Rozenberg says he sees many clients pairing a bombshell blowout with a side part.
Add fairy-like waves for more romance and whimsy.
Jane Birkin-inspired bangs are the bang that will be huge for the next year.
Both Rozenberg and Redway reference the quintessential supermodel blowouts made famous by Cindy Crawford and Kate Moss as a style that many will turn to.
A simple way to elevate a blunt cut, especially for bob cuts, is to give it soft, rounded edges. Redway agrees and loves a rounded bob for 2025.
Whether you opt for microbraids or twists (she even says braided bangs may be something to look out for), Redway predicts you’ll be seeing more braided styles for natural hair grace your timeline.
An evergreen classic that works for all hair types, both Cho and Rozenberg love face-framing layers for 2025.
Parting your hair down the middle will continue to be big all next year.
Cho describes “graduated bobs” as face-framing cuts that start shorter in the back and gradually lengthen as you reach the front.
Prim, proper, and pristine, Rozenberg has seen a shift to these Shirley Temple-like curls.
If you’re looking for something less done up, Rozenberg loves the brushed-out wave look.
Adding a short fringe can add some edge to your overall look without having to sacrifice length.
One of Ballance’s favorite ways to style braids is a sculptural updo with a snatched center part.
Razor cutting has been trending for a while and Ballance says it’s the best way to get you movement in your with softer ends.
Disheveled and giving slept-in vibes, these waves are all about the lowest amount of effort.
Whether you’re scoping out the best haircuts for women or curious to see the most popular haircuts on the rise, you’ve come to the right place.
The Italian bob is equal parts low-maintenance and chic. “With a mix of glamour and nonchalant charm, the haircut is perfect for embracing ‘la dolce vita’ this season.”
Depending on your hair type, you can cut your Birkin bangs more blunt for a modern take on the trend.
Priano says it’s important to communicate with your stylist. “Mentioning key elements like ‘short and layered with a soft, feathered texture around the edges’ can give a clear idea.”
Mena recommends creating angles with face-framing layers. “The top layers and texture will keep it from falling flat,” he says.
“One of the great things about these vintage-inspired cuts, especially the lob, is that they can be tailored to suit almost any face shape,” says Reavey. “A longer bob with a slight wave or a side part can soften angular features, while a sleek, straight lob elongates rounder face shapes.”
Fekkai loves the deconstructed bob for its versatility. “With the option of having bangs or not, it features a square bob shape with jagged, textured edges, giving it a slightly messy and natural appearance,” he says.
Sydney Sweeney’s take on the baroque bob will be huge with short hairstyles trending. According to Wilson, the style is “a little longer, generally cut just above the collarbone, with lots of volume and bounce.”
“This haircut is inspired by the iconic Jane Birkin and features full French bangs paired with hair at collarbone length or longer,” says Fekkai. “The lengths are slightly broken for a soft and natural appearance, with a softer bottom.”
According to Wilson, clients are stepping away from reference photos. “Right now I am seeing a lot of personalization and styles with a DIY vibe; creating a hybrid of two more popular haircuts is becoming the biggest part of my job,” he says.
This summer, expect lots of long hair with long, breezy layers.
Brown is also seeing women ask for thicker, ’90s layers-think a modern take on the Rachel.
“This length looks so chic and can help fine hair appear thicker when cut with a blunt line,” says Brown.
“There is something so fashion-forward about a one-length bob that sits just above the shoulders,” says Brown.
“I have seen so many people with hair longer than they normally wear it,” she says. “I also think that it will be all about long and straight, and sleek and shiny.
