Who wants to spend extra time blow-drying their hair and juggling a round brush, only to reach for yet another heat tool? It not only adds extra time to your routine but also exposes your strands to more heat damage. If you’ve ever wondered how to dry and style your hair simultaneously, the blow-dryer brush might be just what you’ve been looking for! A round brush blow-dryer is the secret to achieving a stunning blowout at home in one step, eliminating the need for two rounds of heat styling or an arm workout from balancing your blow-dryer and a hair brush at the same time. This article dives deep into the art of using a blow-dryer brush and round brush techniques for achieving professional-looking results in the comfort of your own home.
Imagine a big round brush, just like your stylist uses to blowout your hair. The only difference is that this brush is electric, and when you turn it on, hot air blows out. This means as you pull the brush through your damp hair, it dries your strands. If you’ve never managed to master at-home blowouts, now’s your chance.
Before you even think about turning on your blow-dryer, prep is key. This involves washing, conditioning, and applying the right products to protect and prime your hair.
While this tutorial focuses on technique rather than specific products, it's important to start with a good base. Choosing the right shampoo and conditioner for your hair type is crucial.
Consider using leave-in treatments. I’ll do another post on my favorite shampoos & conditioners and leave-in treatments.

While you can use a blow-dryer brush on wet hair, you’ll get the best results if you give your hair some time to dry. Don’t let it dry fully, though!
As with any time you style your hair with hot tools, you’ll want to prep your strands with a heat protectant.
Applying product really does make a huge difference when it comes to styling hair. I’ve found that applying products while my hair wet has made night and day difference to how responsive my hair is when round brushing. After applying your product, let your hair air dry a bit. It’s easier to round brush your hair when it’s less wet and it will definitely speed up the process too.
Brush your hair with a regular brush or wide tooth comb (which is actually better for your hair).
Sectioning ensures that every strand receives the attention it deserves, leading to a more polished and voluminous finish.

Next, you’ll want to section your hair using claw clips. The number of sections will depend on how much hair you have. For hair of average thickness, part your hair from ear to ear, creating a top and bottom section. Clip the top section out of the way. Roughly part the bottom section down the middle, bringing each side in front of your shoulders.
Now that your hair is prepped and sectioned, it's time to dive into the actual blow-drying process. This is where the magic happens.
It’s time to grab your blowout brush! Turn it on, then take a section of hair that’s one to two inches thick. Wait 10 to 20 seconds, then slowly wind the brush downward, unraveling your hair in the process. When your hair is released, you’ll be left with silky, frizz-free strands with a slight curl at the ends. Continue to repeat the wrapping and releasing process throughout the rest of the bottom half of your hair.
There are a few skills that will take some practice, but I promise that no matter WHAT kind of hair you have, you’ll be able to make it work. And you WILL get better with time and practice!
It will probably make more sense when you watch the video, but basically this technique is where you roll the brush through your fingers as your run your hair under the blowdryer. Essentially, you are rolling the round brush back and forth through your hair from top to bottom applying heat.

I hold the blowdryer with my dominant hand. When I need to “re-grab” a strand of hair to run it under the blow dryer again, I’ll use my middle finger (from the hand holding the blowdryer) to pick up the hair and then RE-wrap it around the round brush. Working through each individual strand to get the desired result.
You’ll be using a combination of these two skills to round brush your hair. Start with the first section and repeat until you get to top of your head.
Once you’ve blow-dried all sections of your hair, it’s time to refine your style and ensure it lasts.
Now that you’ve successfully given yourself a DIY blowout, it’s time to add any finishing touches! Use your blow-dryer brush to tweak any areas that could use some extra bounce.
There’s only one thing left to do-spritz on some hair spray! And there you have it; you’re officially a blow-dryer brush pro!
